The 10 DO’s and DON’TS of Twitter – Retweet & @reply conversations
9. | DO… Retweet. Retweeting is the act of forwarding a tweet someone else put up to the followers on your list. To do it copy the tweet content and at the beginning add RT @(that person’s username). This is great for passing on not only stuff that you think is interesting or fun but it also exposes retweeted user to a bunch of new people that may be interested in following them. It helps expand the Twitterverse and still shows your users something you find interesting. |
DON’T… have @ reply conversations in your regular Twitter feed. @reply is cool when you want to give someone some acknowledgement for something they have written about, but when it breaks into a longer conversation that appears on my feed that I have to sort through I get annoyed. If you want to talk to Jenny more in depth about the hair she just got done or the fight she’s having with her boyfriend/terrorist cell leader use DM (direct message) or I don’t know, call her up, use messenger or Facebook chat. It’s like when you’re at a party and two people are talking really intensely about something and then in the middle of it look at you and go, “RIGHT?!” Then I stare blankly at them and go, “I like soup.” We all just end up disappointed. |
