don’t be a Twitter retard

by on Jul.18, 2009, under Blogging, Comedy, Web Tech

TweetardHey Internet! First of all, I’m sorry that I haven’t been around for the past week. I had inlaws in town so I was being all tour guidey and such. So the site got pretty much ignored last week. Then, I had a problem coming up with something to write about. I had a few ideas buzzing around my head, some moview reviews, some video game reviews, a few comical pieces. However, I really think I found a cause that needs addressing sooner rather than later. If I don’t do it, someone might just get hurt.

That’s right people! I’m talking about… NEW TWITTER USERS!!!

Twitter is awesome. We all can agree on that. So awesome, in fact, that it’s really gotten the eye of the regular media. With their recognition came the new Twitter user. You know who you are. You probably noticed it on Good Morning America, saw it referenced on an ad for 24 or heard about from one of your “computer-y friends”. It was probably explained to you like, “It’s kind of like having a site where you just do your Facebook status over and over.” It sounded stupid but you thought you’d give it a throw and as soon as you started getting 3 and 4 friends. You were hooked. You are now a Twitter user… or are you?

how to broadcast live video with your iPhone 3G

by on Jul.06, 2009, under Blogging, Web Tech

mewithphoneHey Internet! So this week I came across one of those web things that has completely obsessed me. Sort of like the first time you discover LOLcats. I learned how to live broadcast video from my iPhone to the internet. I put a couple of tweets up about it and have been barraged with requests on how to do this. So, I thought I would share my experience with you and show you what I did.

Last week I did a radio interview on WatercoolerTALK and while I was doing it the host, Paul, livestreamed the show out over Ustream. Now I had seen Ustream before because when I went there after the show to look at this, apparently, I had already signed up. So I started playing with it more and found that it is a riot to play with and dead simple to setup your own live webshow. Then, one night, while I was watching TV with my wife, I was absent-mindedly surfing on my phone and went to Ustream and noticed a link there to broadcast using your mobile. Now, I know it supports a variety of mobile devices but what I’m going to do is go through my experience setting up for the iPhone 3G. So hold onto your pantaloons because here we go.

this is my internet

by on Jun.23, 2009, under Movie Rants, Movies, Podcasts, The Internet, Web Tech

My InternetSo we all probably have a very similar browsing pattern, I would think. Everyone has those sites they go to everyday or once a week. You probably don’t even think about it sometimes. You just click on the bookmark or you have an icon on your desktop and that’s where you start. I do that.

Sometimes it gets very regimented, too. Generally, it’s based around my workday. Mondays would be these sites. Tuesday this site and this podcast. Thursdays were blah and so on. With a few sites that I went to everyday, even numerous times a day.

So, I was thinking. What are those sites that are worth talking about? These sites make up MY INTERNET. I’m not talking about those places that everyone knows you go to. Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Google and Twitter, don’t count. Of course I go there. That’s what social networking is all about. (side note – you can find all of my social networking links at the bottom of every page) I’m talking about the places that you go to that are things you found along your Internet lifespan that maybe people know about, maybe not. They connect to you in some way (the voice, the content, an activity), and you have become just as loyal to them as your favourite tv show or restaurant.

oscar opinions & twitter awesomeness

by on Jun.23, 2009, under Movie Rants, Movies, The Internet, Web Tech

Oscars are funny in groupsSo, I watched the Oscars last night as I have been doing for the past 20 or so years and it really made me wonder about it’s validity as a show in general. Are they still worth watching or is it just a big commercial for a certain selection of movies and a way of getting actors more money in their movie deals?
